AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Students at Amherst College are trying to put an end to sexual assault by making a pledge.

It’s called the “It’s On Us” initiative. Originally started by the White House, it calls for men and women alike, across the country, to stand up against sexual assault. Amherst College students set up tables with information, free t-shirts that say “It’s On Us.”

Jeff Landcaster, a student at Amherst College told 22News that everybody should care about sexual assault. “Even if you don’t know somebody who’s been sexually assaulted, the implications of that can really ruin a person’s life. I have a friend who was sexually assaulted and she doesn’t let it show on the surface, but it’s actually something that’s, like, really deeply seeded in her.”

Students also put the responsibility on the community by having people sign a pledge to combat sexual assault. According to RAINN which is one of the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organizations, somebody is sexually assaulted every two minutes in the United States.
