CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s fire prevention week, and 22News is working for you to make sure you and your family stay safe.
By law, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors should be in every home. It’s also important to check your batteries and test those units every month.
It’s recommended you put a smoke detector outside each bedroom and on every level of the home. You should replace your batteries twice a year and get a new smoke detector after 10 years.
Forming an emergency escape plan and practicing it with your family is also a good idea. Having working smoke alarms cuts your chance of dying in a fire in half.
