Grow Food Northampton thanks local officials

Some local school children presented vegetables as a gift

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s the largest community farm in the state and it’s in Hampshire County. Grow Food Northampton is thanking the lawmakers who help make this community farm possible.

Grow Food Northampton in Florence is a non-profit organization that makes it possible for local farmers to affordably lease out land for up to 99 years. In 2010, the organization was able to buy land with the help of the city of Northampton and this is their way of showing local officials how their help is paying off.

Lilly Lombard, the Executive Director of Grow Food Northampton told 22News, “We’ve created this wonderful resource for the community. We have school groups coming here for field trips. We have four farm businesses operating sustainably.”

Some local school children even showed up presenting vegetables they picked in the farm as a gift.

The director of Grow Food Northampton told 22News it’s important for there to be affordable land for farmers to lease so they can grow produce for the local community.
