Police: Elderly men accused of soliciting for sex at State Park

BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — Colt State Park is a family-friendly place where people go picnicking and fishing, but according to police – it’s a place where several elderly men were arrested for inappropriate sexual activity.

In the last week, Bristol police said they’ve arrested three men who had solicited other males for sexual favors, two being undercover cops and the other a teenager.

According to the police report obtained by WPRI, Ramon Camara, 83, approached a 19-year-old male at the park Friday and offered to pay the teen $10 to allow him to perform a sexual act on him in the bathroom. The teenager backed away and refused, despite several attempts by the suspect, and captured some of the ordeal on his cell phone camera.

Camara was arrested at his home Sunday and charged with procurement of sexual assault for a fee and simple assault.

Police then launched an investigation, and as a result arrested 74-year-old Anthony Travers and 71-year-old Moses Moore, both of Bristol. Police said the two solicited undercover officers for sexual favors, with Travers going so far as grabbing one of the officers in the groin area several times.

According to the report, Travers told police that sexual solicitation happens a lot at Colt State Park and that there was even a peephole in the public bathroom used to spy on men.

Travers was charged with simple assault and released on $10,000 personal recognizance. According to the report, he told police he was a teacher at Mt. Hope High School, but is now retired.

Moore was charged with soliciting from a motor vehicle for indecent purposes and also released on personal recognizance, but was later found unresponsive on the ground at the corner of State and First Streets. Responding officers performed CPR until medics arrived to transport him to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Moore’s death remains under investigation.
