SALT LAKE CITY, UT (KSL) – A body camera worn by a police officer in Salt Lake City, Utah helped to justify the officer’s fatal shooting of an unarmed man.
20-year-old Dillon Taylor is seen in the video first refusing to turn and face the officer, then disobeying orders to take his hands out of his pants.
When Taylor finally follows the orders of Salt Lake City police officer Bron Cruz, he quickly lifts his shirt and removes his hands from his waistband.
“I was scared to death. The last thought I had go through my mind when I pulled the trigger, and I’ll never forget this … was that I was too late. I was too late. And because of that, I was going to get killed. Worse, my (partner) was going to get killed,” said Cruz.
Salt Lake District Attorney Sim Gill has since ruled the shooting to be justified, with one of the key pieces of evidence being the body camera worn by the officer.
