House damaged by fire in Springfield possibly arson

Church and Grosvenor Streets are blocked off

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Fire caused a lot of damage to a two-and-a-half story house in Springfield’s North End Wednesday night.

Executive Aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News the fire started on the second floor of a vacant house at 17 Sheridan Lane. “There’s a lot of damage to the second and third floors,” said Leger. He added that the fire appears to have been set.

The fire started just after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, and was out by 6:25 p.m. No word on a cause yet. “Sheridan Way is like an alley between Church Street and Grosvenor Street, and it has one house on it. And that house just burned,” Leger said.

Leger told 22News police had blocked off both Church and Grosvenor Streets between Dwight and Main Streets. He added that it appeared the house may have been undergoing renovations. No one was hurt.
