Ebola: Containing the virus

DALLAS, Texas (NBC News) The first patient diagnosed with Ebola in the United States continues to receive treatment from a team of experts inside Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

Doctors there will have help from the Centers for Disease Control. A medical team has been rushed to Texas to assist in the treatment and track down and monitor the handful of people the patient had contact with after flying from West Africa on September 19th to visit his family in Dallas.

Health officials have vowed to contain the virus before it can spread.

“The bottom line here is I have no doubt that we will control this importation or this case of Ebola so it does not spread widely in this country,” said CDC director Dr. Tom Frieden.

Ebola is not an airborne virus; instead it’s transmitted by direct contact with blood or other bodily fluids from someone infected and already exhibiting symptoms of the disease.
