SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police say they arrested a woman who was selling heroin just one block away from the Police Department.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News 37-year-old Jacqueline Nieves was arrested on Monday inside the “Armory Square Park” on the corner of Pearl and Spring Streets. That’s just down the street from police headquarters.
Sgt. Delaney said detectives have made several arrests in the park after getting numerous complaints from neighbors and uniformed police officers.
Police found a plastic baggie filled with rice and 13 bags of Heroin on Nieves. She was charged with Possession of Heroin With Intent to Distribute and Violation of a Drug Free Park Zone; if convicted, she faces two mandatory years in jail.
Nieves was held overnight and arraignment earlier Tuesday in Springfield District Court.
