WESTPORT, Mass. (WPRI) — An investigation that began with art stolen from a local restaurant led to the arrest of a man accused of having an arsenal of illegal weapons.

According to Westport police, Wayne Cinquini, 49, was arrested following a two-day search of his home on Main Road in early September. Police seized nearly 300 guns including assault rifles, shotguns, pistols, and over 100,000 rounds of ammo.

Police also located 50 pounds of gun powder and two military-grade smoke grenades.

Westport police confirmed Cinquini previously owned a gun store, but no longer has a federal firearms license.

Police began investigating Cinquini after they linked him to illegal high-capacity ammo magazines found at a home on Old County Road earlier this month. Police searched the Old County Road home while investigating the theft of several ‘Sailor’s Valentines’ from Marguerite’s Restaurant.

Two people were arrested on drug and weapons charges in connection to the Old County Road investigation.
