Man dies after being struck by train

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Officials with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority say a man struck and killed by a Metro-North train in Bridgeport was trespassing on the tracks.

Authorities say a northbound train to New Haven hit the man just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, just past the Fairfield station. Police haven’t released the man’s name.

The accident caused delays of up to 40 minutes on the commuter railroad. Dozens of people on the train had to get off and were transferred onto another train.

MTA police are investigating why the man was on the tracks.

It was the second time this month that a person was killed on the New Haven Line tracks. An Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian at the downtown Fairfield station on the night of Sept. 6.
