Hurt hiker rescued from Skinner State Park

They were called to the park just before 7 o'clock Sunday night.

HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – One person was hurt while hiking at Skinner State Park, which is on Mt. Holyoke near the Connecticut River and Route 47.

Hadley Police Officer Douglas Costa told 22News they used the hiker’s cell phone to obtain GPS coordinates and located the hiker after about 50 minutes. They got the emergency call just before 7 o’clock tonight and the hiker was found shortly after 8:30.

Firefighters from Hadley, South Hadley and Amherst, along with a state police helicopter helped in the search. Officer Costa said the hiker may have suffered an ankle or leg injury, and was expected to live. The hiker was with some other people in the park.
