SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Governor Patrick opened up as to why he fired a top Sex Offender registry official last week.
In Springfield for the opening of the UMass Satellite Center, Patrick said it was a series of problems that led to the ouster of Sex Offender Registry Chair Saundra Edwards and placing executive director Jeanne Holmes on paid leave.
“An inapproriate at least, and perhaps unlawful intervention by the chair and the executive director into an independent hearing officer’s work. And when that intervention failed, the hearing officer was demoted and ultimately resigned and sued. So we had to settle with him,” Gov. Deval Patrick said.
Patrick also said the agency was under fire for failing to update important regulations, and had fostered a poor working environment.
