AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s a statistic that may have you thinking twice about how you pay for things at the store.
A new Ponemon Institute report found a staggering 43 percent of companies had some sort of data breach in the past year. That’s up 10-percent from the previous year, and it came as no surprise to consumers who spoke to 22News.
Conor Reiker of Agawam said, “There are so many people who are good with computers today I’m sure there’s someone out there who’s going to mess with the system. It’s a lot easier to get stuff than people think it’s going to happen.”
Many of the big-name breaches are blamed on hackers in eastern Europe but smaller scale incidents at your office can happen when passwords are shared, USB’s or files get misplaced, or networks centers get left unlocked.
