SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Falcons extended their affiliation agreement with the Columbus Blue Jackets through the 2015-16 season, with an option for two additional years.

“The extension further affirms our continued commitment to the Greater Springfield community. Columbus has been a great partner and we look forward to having continued success with them both on and off the ice,” said Falcons President Sarah Pompea.

Pompea told 22News, the team also extended their agreement with the MassMutual Center that mirrors their deal with the Blue Jackets.

“We will support the success of the Springfield Falcons with continued investment in a fan-friendly, family atmosphere at the area,” Massachusetts Convention Center Authority Executive Director James Rooney said.  “We have already committed to installing a brand new arena lighting system. We are also investing in other digital enhancements, including a new scoreboard which will be operational sometime in 2015.”

These deals mean that the Falcons will remain skating in Springfield at least through this upcoming and next season.

The Falcons became an affiliate of the Blue Jackets in 2010.  This upcoming season will be the Springfield Falcons 21st.
