South Hadley school drives for funds

300 test drove new Ford vehicles

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – We all know how tight western Massachusetts’ school budgets can be these days. Schools often have to turn to other funding sources to pay for the cost of certain student activities.

South Hadley High School held a Drive For Your School program today to raise money for after-school programs. Students recruited 300 people to test drive one of the Ford Motor Company’s new model cars and SUV’s.

Faculty organizer Michael Pettengill told 22News, it’s all for a good cause that benefits the students. He said, “Various programs. We have leadership programs, we have sports ceremonies that we put on for our student athletes.”

Pettengill described the Drive For Your School program as the biggest fundraiser to keep alive student programs not covered in the school budget.
