SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – While many people may find it a bit annoying to see holiday advertisements already, doing some of your shopping now could save you some cash later.
Last year, the National Retail Federation found that 40% of consumers began their holiday shopping before Halloween. Those shoppers tended to avoid the most holiday debt.
Eddie Ortiz of Westfield told 22News that he has learned from shopping late that there are more benefits that come from shopping early.
“Once I realized how expensive it is, I learned my lesson real quickly that last minute shopping doesn’t work for me. So I must budget in order to afford all of the things that I buy,” Ortiz said.
22News is working for you with a few tips on how to save starting now:
- Sell what you don’t need anymore, and use the money to buy gifts
- Anticipate hidden costs, such as those holiday parties you might need to bring food or a present for, or stamps for your holiday cards
- Start tracking flights now if you plan to travel for the best deals
- Take advantage of the sales you see now, to beat the holiday rush and stress
