SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A panel discussion Wednesday night gave western Massachusetts residents a chance to learn what it’s like to be a refugee living in the United States.
The World Affairs Council of Western Massachusetts invited refugees from Bhutan and Iraq to speak about their experience in our country.
One of the organizers, Cynthia Melcher, told 22News over the years, refugees have made significant contribution to our community as business owners and community leaders. “We’ve been hearing about businesses that have been opened by refugees that go on to employee others. So immigrants and refugees have been part of America. They probably always will be.”
There’s another discussion Thursday night with refugees who have started their own business. That starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Forest Park Branch Library.
