SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Army Gen. Martin Dempsey told a Senate panel Tuesday that the plan is for Americans to serve as advisers for now, but accompany Iraqi troops on the ground in the future if necessary.
Western New England University Professor John Baick told 22News, no matter the strategy, the ISIS threat will not disappear overnight. He said this is something we’ll hear about through the end of the Obama administration and the beginning of a new one in 2017.
Baick said, “This is not a group that can easily and quickly be eradicated. They have tens of thousands of people, and it is a group that will never surrender, never give up. It has to be utterly destroyed in order to be defeated.”
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said today “we are at war with ISIS, as we are with Al Qaeda.”
