NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Hundreds have paid their respects and flags lined the streets of a central Massachusetts town to honor a paratrooper killed in Afghanistan.
The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports that Spc. Brian Arsenault’s father Dan spoke at his funeral Mass on Tuesday. He described his son’s happy personality and free spirit. He said Brian loved to have long conversations with people, and loved to sing even though he was terrible at it. He said “everybody with him laughed,” and loved him.
The 28-year-old Arsenault died Sept. 4 from injuries suffered during a firefight between his unit and enemy forces. He was buried in his hometown with full military honors.
Arsenault was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
