Golf tournament “driving” for a cure to cancer

Tournament held in honor of the late Tom Cosenzi

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – More than 200 people teed off Monday morning, in an effort to cure cancer. A golf tournament, auctions, and a dinner are being held at Crestview Country Club in Agawam, in honor of western Massachusetts car dealer Tom Cosenzi, who died of brain cancer.

The “Tom Cosenzi Driving for the Cure Charity Golf Tournament” raises money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and specifically, the doctor that treated Cosenzi, to help fund research for brain cancer. Through this golf tournament and a dinner, they’ve raised 406-thousand dollars.

Carla Cosenzi, Tom’s daughter, told 22News, “There’s not a lot of money that goes towards brain cancer research, so we absolutely loved his doctor, loved Dana Farber, it was amazing what they did for us, so we try to raise as much money as we can for them in hopes that no other family will have to endure the pain that we did.”

Donors on Monday divided into groups for a “Four Player Scramble” on the golf course. In all, it was expected that 230 people would be donating and helping the cause.
