SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Native American population in Springfield kicked off Native America Heritage month today.
The Native American Inter-tribal Council of Western Massachusetts held their annual flag raising at City Hall this morning.
Members of the council say the flag raising gives them an opportunity to raise Native American awareness. Jeremiah Patrie, a member of the Native American Inter-tribal Council, told 22News, “To me, it’s a chance to share with the schoolchildren and the people of Springfield the Native American history and culture of the area.”
Their next event will be the first Harvest gathering, where the public is invited to bring their favorite dish and celebrate with the council.
