WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – New England’s great state fair began its annual 17-day run Friday.
A pretty good crowd of people were walking on the Avenue of States for the first night, and first Friday night, of the Big E in West Springfield.
The Big E is a nearly century-old tradition in western Massachusetts. It’s something children and adults of all ages grew up with around here, and who look forward to opening day every year.
One person 22News talked to said, “I’m coming here because I love it here. It’s probably my favorite thing ever. I love the rides. I love the food. I love the atmosphere. My family’s here, somewhere.”
On this first day, “Be a Kid for a Day” day, everyone got in at the children’s price of ten dollars. Veterans walked through the gates with free admission.
