ATLANTA, Geor. (NBC News) A plane carrying a fourth American infected with the deadly Ebola virus has arrived in the United States.
Guarded by a police escort, the latest Ebola patient was taken from the Dobbins Air Force Base to Emory University Hospital, where he very gingerly walked inside.
“The ability to walk is a good sign, however its only one perameter in assessing our patient,” Emory’s Dr. Aneesh Mehta said after the arrival.
On Monday the World Health Organization said one of its doctors who has been working in an Ebola treatment center in Sierra Leone has tested positive for the disease. The State Department later confirmed that doctor is an American. His name, age and hometown have not been made public.
WHO officials said the doctor was in stable condition when he boarded the specially designed plane to evacuate him to the United States.
