Body found in Amherst, likely was missing woman

DA spokesperson: Body is believed to be that of Marissa Jackson

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – A body recovered from a wooded area near a busy Amherst intersection is believed to be that of a woman who has been missing since Friday night.

Mary Carey, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, told 22News that the body found Tuesday morning is believed to that of Marissa Jackson. The 26 year-old was last seen Friday night walking near Belchertown Road.

In the late morning hours, police taped-off the wooded area at the corner of Amity Street and University Drive. Around noontime, there remained a heavy police presence, with town police, UMass police, and state troopers all there.

No information about her cause of death is being released until it is officially determined by the state medical examiner. Amherst Police, UMass Police, and State Police assigned to the Northwestern DA’s office are continuing to investigate the case.
