$12,000 chalice stolen from Chicopee church

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A chalice worth $12,000 has disappeared from a Chicopee church, following a break-in, and now police are trying to find who is responsible for taking it.

The department posted on their official Facebook page that the chalice, as well as other items, were discovered to be missing from the St. Rose de Lima Church on Grattan Street at around 7:00 Monday morning.

The church’s pastor, Fr. William Tourigny issued the following statement:

“Our parish community was devastated by the break-in of our beloved St Rose Church sometime between Sunday Sept 7 and Monday morning Sept 8.
We are currently reviewing inventory information to determine what other items may have been stolen in addition to the Celtic Chalice.
At the same time we are reviewing our security measures.
We are all most grateful for the response of Chicopee police and the outpouring of concern from the greater community.
In no way, does this isolated incident, detract from our generations of ministry and fellowship here in the Aldenville section of Chicopee.”

Detectives are still looking into the break in, and are encouraging anyone with any information to call them at (413) 594-1700.
