SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Bishop Emeritus Joseph Maguire reached a major milestone Thursday: the former leader of local Catholics is 95 years old.
Mark Dupont, spokesperson for the Diocese of Springfield, told 22News that Bishop Maguire will celebrate at home with members of his family and staff. The faithful are being asked to say a special prayer for him on this milestone day.

A native of the Boston area, Maguire served as a priest and an auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Boston until coming to Springfield in 1976. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Springfield from 1977 to 1992.
