WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Lieutenant Colonel Morris “Moose” Fontenot, Jr. was described as a “true hero” during a vigil held in his honor this past Saturday. A formal tribute will be paid to that hero during a memorial service this weekend. Fontenot, who died last week when his F-15 went down in a wooded area of Virginia, will be honored with a memorial service on Sunday at the main hangar at Barnes Air National Guard Base.
The service will allow Fontenot’s comrades in the 104th Fighter Wing, as well as members of his family and invited guests, to say goodbye to the 18-year Air Force veteran. 22News will be bringing this special tribute to our viewers by having live streaming coverage here on WWLP.com. The service, and our special coverage, begins at 2:00 P.M.
Members of Fontenot’s family and airmen from the base will deliver eulogies during Sunday’s service.
Lt. Col. Fontenot will be laid to final rest at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado early next month.
In lieu of flowers and cards, the family has set up a fund in his memory. Donations may be made through the Red River Valley Fighter Pilot Association at www.river-rats.org.
