MONTAGUE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Greenfield man took the cash option on a $2.15 million Megabucks Doubler jackpot winner Thursday, and still went home with more than $1.1 million.
Massachusetts State Lottery spokeswoman Lisa MacDonald told 22News that Donald Hutchinson picked up a check for nearly $1.2 million at lottery headquarters in Braintree.
Hutchinson purchased the winning Megabux Doubler ticket in the next town over at the Montague City Rd. Cumberland Farms in Turners Falls. Store employees hadn’t been informed of the winner’s identity when they spoke with 22News Thursday night. But they were excited that they’d sold a big winning ticket.
“We always joke that somebody in Turners needs to win, but I didn’t actually expect that would happen,” said assistant manager Kristen Kanehl, “It was pretty awesome! I’m really excited. I hope that it’s one of our regulars.”
Kanehl told 22News she was looking forward to personally congratulating the winner.
Kanehl said that the store would receive a $10,000 bonus for selling a big jackpot winner, and that store employees would receive a share of that and get small bonuses.
