Mt. Holyoke to welcome transgendered students

School says formal policy articulates their core values

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Mt. Holyoke College is welcoming a controversial policy change.

The school’s president formally announced this week that transgendered students are welcome on campus. It’s a formal policy that the school says articulates their core values of individual freedom, social justice, diversity and inclusion.

Students hope other schools follow suit.

Sophomore Melissa Danz told 22News, “I hope that we set a good precedent for what should kind of be happening all over the country, just allowing people of all different kinds, genders, to attend a women’s college like Mt. Holyoke.”
