Getting lawns and gardens ready for fall

With fall just a few weeks away it's a good time to get some yard work done

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s now September and fall will officially arrive in just a few weeks. 22News is working for you with what you can do in your yard or garden right now.

Now that the weather is more comfortable you may want to take advantage of it to get things done in your yard and garden. Most lawns are looking pretty green but with fall just a few weeks away it’s a good time to get some yard work done.

Right now you can put down fall fertilizers and plant grass.

“Now is a good time to reseed your dead areas in your lawn; the soil temperatures are still warm,” said Steve Bordenuk from the Sixteen Acres Garden Center. “We’re getting cool nights where we’re getting a lot of dew so now is a perfect time to reseed.”

Bordenuk says it’s also a good time to “dead head” your annuals and perennials by cutting off the dead blossoms.

Right now fall plants like mums are available and another sign that fall is almost here, the pumpkins are out too.
