10th Hampden District Democratic candidates debate

Melvin Edwards, Carlos Gonzalez, and Ivette Hernandez debated live on 22News

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News is working for you as the state primary approaches by hosting a series of debates among the candidates looking for your vote. On Wednesday afternoon at 12:30, 22News hosted a debate among Democratic candidates for the 10th Hampden District seat in the House of Represenatitves.

Candidates Melvin Edwards, Carlos Gonzalez, and Ivette Hernandez participated in Wednesday’s debate, moderated by 22News anchor Rich Tettemer. The debate aired live on 22News and here on WWLP.com, but if you missed any of it, you can watch it in its entirety here on WWLP.com.

The 10th Hampden District was long represented by Cheryl Coakley-Rivera (D-Springfield), who left office earlier this year to accept a job in the state court system. The September 9th primary will be particularly important in this district, as there are no declared Republican or independent candidates for the November election.

The 10th Hampden District includes the westernmost portions of the city of Springfield, including all or part of the North End, Downtown Springfield, the South End, Forest Park, Maple High-Six Corners, and Liberty Heights.
