SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police have arrested and charged a man wearing a probation tracking bracelet with breaking and entering after they say he was trapped in the garage he was rooting through.

According to Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney, police arrested Matthew Tannen, 25, after receiving word of a “breaking and entering in progress” on Manchester Terrace on Monday at 10:12 P.M.

Delaney said the family, who were at home at the time, found Tannen attempting to steal from their garage and were able to close the exit doors fast enough to trap him until authorities arrived.

While taking Tannen into custody, police found he was wearing an ankle bracelet set up by probation officers. The bracelet was flashing red as Tannen had been restricted to his home and was in violation of a 10 P.M. curfew.
