CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – We live in a state that’s known to be a Democratic state but new numbers show that the majority of voters are turning away from the Democratic Party.
The most recent party enrollment numbers show that more than 53% of Massachusetts voters have registered as independent. A little more than 35% of voters are registered as Democrats while fewer than 11% are registered Republicans.
Some western Mass. voters aren’t surprised to hear the shift.
“Sometimes there are people who are in a particular party that they may disagree with. I think they may be becoming more informed, therefore more particular about whom they vote for,” said Jeanne Bell of West Springfield.”
There are more than 4.2 million registered voters in the state.
