CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Students in Chicopee head back to school Tuesday, and police are asking drivers to be careful around ongoing construction sites.
There is sewer separation work happening on Dale Street and Montgomery Streets, as well as a number of side streets, that are close to several schools.
Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News that he wants to remind drivers to keep a lookout for kids walking to class around these sites.
“They’re used to the construction going on all summer, but they’re not used to the kids and the buses being out there, so we just want people to take it slow tomorrow be careful and realize that schools back in,” Wilk said.
You are also reminded to stop for buses that have their lights flashing. Bus drivers have been instructed to take license plate numbers of those who don’t.
