2 killed, 2 arrested in deadly Easthampton accident

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The names of two people killed in Thursday’s accident on Route 5 have been released by the Easthampton Police Department.

Edward McGrath, 62, of Holyoke and his daughter Brittney McGrath, 29, of Brooklyn, NY, were both killed when they were struck by an SUV. Witnesses say the SUV, which was traveling on southbound lane on route 5 crossed into the northbound lane striking the two victims on the motorcycle.

The driver of the SUV was James Walter Ainsworth, 45, of Springfield, who was driving under the influence of narcotics. He has been arrested and charged with two counts of felony motor vehicle homicide.

The second person arrested was Christina R. Dunlap, who was a passenger in that SUV. She’s charged with possession of heroin and being a fugitive from justice.

After the accident, they were taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where they were treated for minor injuries from the crash.

Ainsworth and Dunlap were both arraigned Friday morning in the Northampton District Court.
