Popular Springfield pub closing after a decade

The closure was "disheartening" for customers and staff

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Patrons will soon find the downtown Springfield bar scene a bit quieter after this Saturday, when JT’s Sports Pub will be closing its doors.

JT’s Sports Pub has been serving sports fans food and drink for eleven years, but they ran into a problem this year, when the landlord decided not to renew the restaurant’s lease.

Keith Makarowski, the owner of JT’s, told 22News, “Unfortunately we have not been able to secure a new lease with our landlord so it’s brought an unfortunate end for us. With the casino coming, he has bigger aspirations and feels he could get far more rent.”

Makarowski told 22News his attempts to negotiate with his landlord were unsuccessful. He called the closure “disheartening” for loyal customers and his hardworking staff.

However, it’s not the end of his restaurant business in Springfield; he also owns Theodores’ Blues, Booze & BBQ on Worthington Street, which he says will honor any JT’s gift certificates.

Until the doors close, food and drink selection will be limited, but Makarowski asks patrons to come and share stories and memories with friends.
