CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee’s newest neighborhood playground is expected to be completed by Saturday.
Work began today installing equipment at the Nash street playground in Chicopee’s Willimansett neighborhood. The original timetable called for completion in November, but the construction crews recruited teams of people to do the heavy lifting and finish the project quickly..
“We have the Chicopee comp football team here today helping us out and we have the folks from Westover job corps helping us out today,” said Chicopee Park Superintendent, Carolyn Porter.
The Nash playground is the first Chicopee improvement project to be partially financed by means of crowdfunding, online fundraising through social media. People made donations by logging on to “Citizinvestors,” and donating fifty dollars to naturally Nash. The crowdfunding effort is still ongoing.
