“America’s Oldest Fair” kicks off in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – It may not officially be fall, but the end of August signals the beginning of the fall fair season.

Dubbed America’s Oldest Fair, in its 197th year, the Three County Fair got underway in Northampton on Friday afternoon. It’s a fair with a focus on family, food, rides and agriculture.
And if you like to watch demolition derbies, you still have some time to see the one at 7 o’clock Friday.

The fair  attracts people from all over New England, and helps boost tourism in and around Northampton.

Bruce Shallcross, General Manager of the Three County Fair, told 22News, “Sometimes they’ll come to the fair for the day and go out to dinner in Northampton at night and they shop in town.So it brings people in. Plus we have people who come and stay for a couple days at the fair and stay at the hotels so it’s an economic driver.”

If you can’t make it Friday, don’t worry; the Three County Fair runs through Monday.
