Study: U.S. workers afraid to take time off

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A new study says a lot of people are afraid to take time off from work. 40 years ago, 80 percent of workers took weeklong vacations. Today, it’s half that.

The U.S. Travel Association says they fear being replaced, believing only they can do their job.

A restaurant manager told 22News it depends on the employee. Daniel Doane said, “Some people, I understand that they might not get their hours back or their managers might see them in a different light, but for the most part I do think they take the time off that’s needed.”

The study says workers who take vacations are generally more productive.
