Police identify man in Tuesday’s deadly shooting

The 31-year-old man was found shot to death in white van

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Police have identified one of the two men who were shot in Holyoke Tuesday morning as 31-year-old Hector Marrero of Springfield.

Holyoke police said Marrero was found dead in a white van that had previously crashed into Rucki and Son Tire Shop. The co-owner of the shop, Aleck Rucki said, “One of the workers told me that somebody went through the fence. Then the police came and told me what happened, I was shocked.”

According to Holyoke Police, the first victim was found on South Bridge Street. Lt. Jim Albert told 22News that victim is a 25-year-old man from Chicopee. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries, but is expected to survive. Lt. Albert also said investigators found several bullet shell casings on South Bridge Street.

One father who lives just up the road from where residents heard those gun shots fired told 22News he’s concerned for his son’s safety. “I’m afraid to go out anywhere out in this area. I’m frustrated. I’m very frustrated because of all the shootings that are going on,” Eric Phakos said.
