Money raised in Springfield for “Ride to Remember”

The goal was to raise $5,000

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Dozens of people were riding bikes for a good cause Thursday.

“One Eighty Fit Gym” in Springfield moved their spinning bikes onto the sidewalk at 1 Financial Plaza for the day to raise awareness of police officers who are killed in the line of duty.

Money raised Thursday will benefit Springfield’s “Ride to Remember” which is a bike ride from Springfield to Boston happening next month in honor of all police killed on the job, including Kevin Ambrose of Springfield and Jose Torres of Westfield.

One Springfield business owner said riding Thursday is the least he can do. Evan Plotkin said, “There are challenges in the city that, they’re up against a lot, and it’s a little thing that I can do to help them for all that they do, risking their lives everyday.”

22News I-Team Reporter and Anchor Laura Hutchinson and Mass Appeal co-host Ashley Kohl took part in Thursday event. The goal was to raise $5,000.
