CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A water main break on South Street in Chicopee has caused a sink hole in the road.
The break happened around 1:45PM Thursday near where South Street intersects Springfield Street. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area of South Street, Springfield Street, Nonotuck Avenue, School Street and Center Street.
According to Joel McAuliffe, the Communications and Special Projects Manager for the Mayor’s office, the break is at an 8 inch line and will take four to six hours to repair. About four homes have been affected due to this break.
Chicopee Police Officer Michael Wilk told 22News he expects the break to impact the evening rush hour commute.
The Chicopee Water Department is at the break, along with the Chicopee DPW and the police.
