Construction begins on Hungry Hill park

The park is expected to be completed next summer

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Construction began today on a new park in Springfield’s Hungry Hill neighborhood.

The park on Liberty Street has been named in honor of the late Mary Troy. Troy was director of the Hope Senior Center in Hungry Hill for many years.

Mary Troy’s sister, Katie Sullivan, has lived in this neighborhood for 65 years. She told 22News that a park like this has been needed here for a long time. Sullivan said, “I think for the young people, they’ll have a park for something for them to do without having to go all the way to Van Horn. There are a lot of children on this side of Liberty Street too.”

The park is expected to be completed next summer, providing the neighborhood with a patio, a splash pad, a playground and walking path. The site is located next to the Hungry Hill Senior center.
