800 bags of heroin, loaded pistol seized in Holyoke

Suspect fought with FBI gang task force members

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Holyoke Police, with the help of the FBI’s Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force, State Police and the ATF Task Force, arrested a Holyoke couple and seized 800 bags of heroin and a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol Thursday night.

Holyoke Police Lt. Jim Albert told 22News a “shots fired” call led to a traffic stop and a foot chase. “The FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force, which is in Holyoke because of two recent shooting deaths, got involved in the chase and arrested the passenger, who fought with them,” said Lt. Albert.

When police brought the suspect back to the vehicle, they arrested the driver, a 35 year old Holyoke woman. Lt. Albert said police found a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol and 800 bags of heroin.

Police charged 22-year-old Anthony Perez and 35-year-old Wilmarie Hernandez with multiple narcotics and firearms charges. Lt. Albert said Perez is also charged with resisting arrest.

No one was hurt during the arrests. The suspects face arraignment in Holyoke District Court Friday.
