Springfield fire commissioner allegedly attacked by retired fire captain

Commissioner Conant was taken to Baystate

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant will be taking a few days off, after he was allegedly attacked by retired fire department captain, Michael Richard.

According to a news release from Jim Leydon of the Springfield Mayor’s office, Richard allegedly attacked Conant at his home in Springfield on Tuesday.

Conant was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.

Springfield Fire Department Spokesman Dennis Leger referred all questions on the alleged attack to Police Commissioner John Barbieri’s office.
