SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police say that they found heroin hidden inside a bedroom, among some old tires, and inside a balloon stashed inside a suspect’s underwear Tuesday night. Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News officers arrested two alleged dealers and one of their customers in connection with three drug raids on homes in the city’s Old Hill neighborhood.
According to Delaney, police obtained a search warrant on 42 Melrose St., 262 Eastern Ave., and 293 Eastern Ave, after an investigation into the alleged drug dealings of Jorge Oquendo, 35, and Luz Feliciano, 42. Prior to the raids, the officers allegedly witnessed a heroin sale being made to Candida Hamel-Hawley, 41. Police arrested her a short time later during a traffic stop at Wilbraham Road and Alden Street.
While conducting their search of the properties, Delaney says that they found heroin hidden inside bedrooms, as well as in the basement of 293 Eastern Avenue, where the drug was hidden amongst some old tires. On searching the suspects, police allegedly found a green balloon inside Oquendo’s underwear, which also contained heroin.
Oquendo and Feliciano are being charged with one count of distribution of heroin and two counts of possession of heroin with intent to distribute. Hamel-Hawley is charged with possession of heroin. The suspects were held overnight by police prior to their scheduled arraignment in Springfield District Court.
