SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – When the staff at Azia Jerome dentist office, located at 627 College Highway in Southwick, arrived to work Wednesday morning they were greeted by the smell of natural gas.
Dr. Azia Jerome told 22News at about 8:10 A.M. he noticed the strong smell of natural gas and asked others who have professional offices in the building if they smelled the same. They all agreed and called Columbia Gas to come check it out. The Southwick Fire Department also went to check on the safety of the workers.
By 9:15 A.M. all workers were allowed back inside, but the smell of gas was still present. A new dryer that runs on gas was installed yesterday into that building and wasn’t installed properly.
Columbia Gas spokesperson Andrea Luppi told 22News that the gas is turned off until the building’s owner can get the person who installed the system to fix the problem.
Luppi said these kinds of issues pop up fairly often and it’s likely gas service will be turned back on there by the end of the day.
