Most back-to-school spending is used on electronics

Parents plan to buy laptops, tablets

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Anyone who has ever sent a child back to school knows it’s a pricey process that only gets more involved as the student grows older.

Some of the most expensive items in families’ shopping carts as they prepare for the fall semester are electronics.

According to a new American Express spending survey, parents expect to spend close to half of their back-to-school budget, more than $500, on devices and gadgets to help with school work.

Elizabeth Perez of Springfield said, “You are pressured because you have to get them this in order to succeed in school or be social with their friends.”

The Top 5 devices parents plan to buy are laptops, tablets, scientific calculators, mobile phones, and printers.
