SALEM, Mass. (AP) — A Lawrence man has been sentenced to three consecutive life prison terms for killing his girlfriend and her two teenage children on Labor Day weekend of 2011.
The Eagle-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1tab65O) that Judge Howard Whitehead called the slayings “barbaric and evil” as he sentenced 43-year-old Jose Luis Tejada on Tuesday at Salem Superior Court. Family members of the victims also gave emotional impact statements in court.
Tejada was convicted of first-degree murder on Monday in the shootings of 39-year-old Milka Rivera, and her children, 19-year-old Sachary Montanes and 16-year-old Max Arel Montanez at the Lawrence apartment they all shared.
Police said he told investigators he killed Rivera and the teens because he was tired of them shouting at him. He allegedly said he then tried to shoot himself but had run out of bullets.
