Springfield students head back to school

First days are about helping students transition to new year

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – While most students in western Massachusetts are busy enjoying their final days of vacation, students in Springfield are back in their classrooms.

Students shouldn’t expect any major assignments on their first day of school. Instead, they’ll get to enjoy a relaxed transition, which can be important for new freshman.

Central High School’s principal told 22News starting the year early allows students to adjust to the change in schedule.

Principal Tad Tokarz said, “We’re very strict on our expectations, both academically and socially, so we’re just making sure the kids’ class schedules are exactly what they want, they have their homerooms, and all of the information that they need.”

East Longmeadow schools are the next to head back, starting Tuesday morning, and Agawam students get to enjoy the longest break; they don’t return until September 4th.
